FLIM microscope funded

Together with 10 scientific partner groups, the Core Facility obtained funding for Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging

10.12.2018

The Core Facility Bioimaging will obtain a new Fluorescence Lifetime microscope in 2019!

Early in 2018 the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), the major body of university research funding in Germany, launched a so called Großgeräteinitiative (large equipment initiative) for "novel, experimental light microscopes for research". The DFG launches such an initiative about every year and askes für suggestions on respective topics. During 2017 at least two proposals were made towards funding novel light microscopes, one of them a proposal submitted by GerBI-GMB Core Facility Managers (including us), resulting in the respective DFG call.

One of several specialties of this program is that the costs for the instrumentation are fully covered by the DFG whereas costs for 'normal' large equipment grants are shared 50/50 between the DFG and the university.

The DFG now announced that of the 50 applications, 13 will be funded, including ours for "Fast and Integrated Fluorescence Lifetime Microscopy". Our application was a joint venture with 10 scientific proposals from seven groups from the BMC, and three from neighboring institutions: Biocenter, Chemistry and Klinikum der Universität. We therefore thank our collaboration partners very much and hope that all projects will be successful, once the new equipment is up and running.
